Incident: Four Pedestrians Injured in Brightwaters Crash
Location: Concourse East, south of Montauk Highway, Brightwaters
Date/Time: Monday, November 16, 2009, at 5:20 p.m.
 
 

Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a Brightwaters crash that injured four people, two of them seriously, this evening.  

Doris Rullo was driving her 1996 For Taurus north on Concourse East in Brightwaters when her vehicle struck four pedestrians walking north on the west side of the road at 5:20 p.m.  

Two of the pedestrians, Donald Marran, 65, of 24 Cooper Lane, Bay Shore, and Rosemary Pappacoda, 66, of 5 Garden Place, Bay Shore, were transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore. Marran is listed in serious condition with multiple fractures and suffered chest trauma. Pappacoda is listed in stable condition with multiple fractures. The other two pedestrians, Cathy Benjamin, 58, of 27 Cooper Lane, Bay Shore, and Diane Ulrich, 52, of 63 Johnson Lane, Bay Shore, were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. They were treated for minor injures and released. Rullo, 73, of Concourse East, Brightwaters, was not injured in the crash.  

Preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrians were walking in a group of rows of two when they were struck. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
