CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISOR 7740
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this class is responsible for the day-to-day supervision
of a variety of construction projects associated with airport operations. This supervision includes, but is not
limited to, inspections and supervision of building (tenant and owner)
construction/modification and major airport improvement projects involving
federal and state funding. Work is
performed under the general direction of an administrative supervisor through
conferences and reports. Performs
related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Initiates and coordinates
documentation for federal funding applications, with Federal Aviation
Administration and New York State Department of Transportation representatives;
Coordinates pre-planning
engineering meetings with consultant engineering personnel;
Reviews preliminary plans
and coordinates with airport tenants and Federal Aviation Administration
Agencies regarding proposed projects and scheduling of work periods;
Maintains federal and
state mandated construction progress records utilized for payments and quality
control;
Coordinates quality
control testing programs and performs on-site field inspections during major
airfield construction projects;
Performs inspections of
airport tenant lease properties and structures on an annual basis and during
periods of initial construction and/or major alterations, to insure compliance
with building codes and construction plans;
Communicates with federal
and state agencies, airport tenants, and contractors to insure compliance
during construction projects and as a result of annual building/facilities
inspections.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL
CHARACTERISTICS Thorough knowledge of structural
design and material specifications; good knowledge of field measurement
procedures and layout of work sites; knowledge of air traffic control
procedures utilized in operations on airport access areas; knowledge of
computer programming for construction purposes; ability to read and interpret
detailed technical specifications related to construction scheduling and
planning; ability to prepare reports and maintain detailed records as required
for federal and state agency participation; ability to supervise personnel in a
manner conducive to full performance and high morale; tact; good judgment;
physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation
from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma
and five (5) years of experience in construction work, one year which must have
been in a supervisory capacity, and one year of experience in airport
operations requiring the utilization of Federal Aviation Administration
regulations governing runway access and clearance.
NOTE:
Additional education in the field of civil technology, construction
engineering or civil engineering may be substituted on a year - for - year
basis for the experience in construction.
Education may not be substituted for the supervisory experience.
