Under
general supervision, an employee in this class performs very responsible work
in managing administrative services in a large
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Manages
several administrative functions including personnel, purchasing, budgeting,
planning, central records or office management;
Represents the department
head in working with other county departments;
Assists the department
head in planning associated with personnel, equipment, facilities and
department service;
Supervises and
coordinates a specific departmental program, developing policies and procedures
for implementation and providing administrative services;
Supervises the fiscal
division of the department in the administration of county, state and federal
programs;
Assists in the personnel
policy and personnel administration of the department;
Prepares and administers
the department budget;
Oversees the central
records function including inventory control, microfilm operation, and
retention and retrieval systems;
Assists in the design and
implementation of management information systems to include inter and intra
departmental systems;
Conducts studies and
reports regarding departmental planning and operations.

Thorough
knowledge of the methods and techniques of office management, organization and
supervision; thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of financial
administration, budgeting, statistical concepts and methods and public
administration; thorough knowledge of the sources of information, methods and
techniques used in administrative research; thorough knowledge of modern office
equipment and supply requirements; ability to rapidly acquire a thorough
knowledge of the legal, administrative and procedural regulations applicable to
the department or program; ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of
a large staff in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale;
ability to develop effective office and field work procedures; ability to
promote and maintain effective departmental and public relations; ability to
prepare operating and statistical tables and reports; ability to express
oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition
commensurate with the demands of the position.

PROMOTIONAL
Two
(2) years of permanent competitive status as a Suffolk County government employee
as an Administrator II or a Payroll Manager.
